| ABOUT: My father-in-law died on the night of my 40th birthday. It has been one of those defining moments which I go back to in my memory from time to time. This track came about as a reflection of the event. It was written for him, but is really not about him as much as it is a meditation on change and the inevitable ending of all things. |
| INSTRUMENT VOICING: These are all Roland voices from the JV-35 (piano, bass, multiple strings, and solo violin), and the track was written and recorded before I got the expansion card (so it's all GM voices). I do not recall which Mac used while recording this track, but my guess is the old Performa 6400. Not used much these days, but it's still plugged in and sitting over over in the corner!
|
| HARDWARE/SOFTWARE: Roland JV-35, a Macintosh computer, my friend MasterTracks Pro, a DBX gate, an Aphex Aurel Exciter, Tascam board, M-Audio SOLO firewire interface and Garage Band to get the track out of MasterTracks, iTunes to convert it from AIFF to MP3, Audio2SWF to convert to Flash. And Dreamweaver and Photoshop CS2 to build this page. Many thanks to all those whose hard work on these items made it possible for me to share this with you. |
